The umbrella was to shelter the pit from the slight drizzle and the wrapped-in-plastic wire mesh was to block the strong winds. Fire starting was a real challenge till Jia Ming finally stepped in. Ryan wasn't helping by telling us how he used 3 boxes of fire starters for his class's barbeque.

Well it wasn't even half the class but I dare say we did enjoy ourselves.

20 December 2008, grandma's 80th birthday dinner

Food can be a real tortue sometimes ):

It was great to be able to finally see all my maternal side cousins after a pretty long time. Oh yes it was only then did I came to know that my grandmother has a goddaughter and that makes her children my step-cousins? There were certainly lots of catching up to do.

We went to this restaurant at vivocity which prepared all their dishes with some sort of herbs. The dinner itself lasted 4 hours, leaving all of us extremely bloated. Halfway through after a bun, an appetiser, a huge bowl of soup plus some mushroom dish, everybody at my table (mainly the children) was complaining and trying to not faint at the thought of lobsters, fish, noodles, dessert and cake.

The whole sleepover just got weirder as it drew nearer to sunrise.

Bascially, we

#1 carried out this really funny plan to steer Cheryl out of her house while Vivien, Kimberlyn and Sarah fantically decorated her room after buying groceries from NTUC

#2 went on a scavenger hunt planned by the "Angelic Trio" that required us to do retarded tasks

#3 played waterbomb at Pasir Ris park after flooding Cheryl's toilet

(I helped this group of people take a photo upon their request while we were about to leave the park and some guy asked for my number. I didn't give.)

#4 sat around the kitchen eating healthily prepared instant noodles

#5 koped bicycles from the carpark and went out cycling

(We stopped at 7-11 all the way at Whitesands for a drink and then a girl approached me to get my number again. She was from the group of people I helped take a picture earlier on. Wth.)

#6 taught Vivien how to cycle

#7 explored the Red House with KC people who invited us along after bumping into them while cycling

#8 ate McDonalds for breakfast

Tuesday: Attended HCISO concert in someone's place cause of last minute matters. I didn't fall asleep! Even though I didn't really know how to appreciate the music, it was still good catch up time with primary school classmates (:

Wednesday: RGSTNF returns with double divisional 5th. Then it's down to Suntec City Swensens in some lousy bus for the combined track dinner. I bet the staff hates us for messing up the whole place with water fights and the customers hate us for making so much noise.

Friday: BOB 3. Didn't bother staying for the results. The atmosphere just wasn't high enough. Thank goodness it got better in the second round.

Saturday: CHMA. Should I say I was kind of forced to go? ANYWAY IT WAS AWESOME. :D Inside jokes, ridiculous comments and what not, I liked it quite a lot.

Heh I know this post is more than a week overdue so I'll try to recall as much as possible. It took me long enough to just get this up. Urgh stupid blogger.

WALES / IRELAND TRIP 2008!

On board KLM to Amsterdam. 13 hour flight.

That's sunrise. Blame it on the dirty windows.

I WAS A BAD GIRL. I BREATHED AMSTERDAM'S AIR.

According to Charmaine, I was sulking on the transit flight from Amsterdam to Manchester and my face was green. :/ After a torturous 6 hour drive from Manchester airport to Wales (with me throwing up my lunch cause I was so badly dehydrated), we finally reached Dale Fort Field Study Centre. How happy was I. Beat that, almost 24 hours of non-stop travelling.

Too tired to run.

Sandwich room where we packed our lunch every morning.

First time donning on oversized waterproofs and wellington boots! Quadrat sampling: count the Plantain population in a sample area. The drizzle and wind was numbing cold.

That's how heavy and uncomfortable waterproofs and boots are.

This reminds me of some China kungfu movie. Oh yes, we were deprived of TV in Dale Fort but all the chit chatting and laughing still compensated for the loss. (:

So we had to do loads of walking to get to different cliffs to conduct our activities. Like we walked across the headland to count rough periwinkles to make comparisons as well as capture sandhoppers to calculate it's population at Castlebeach.

Hmm we walked to a saltmarsh (similar to a mangrove) to look at the succession of plants and also to try out another form of quadrat sampling.

BLACK ANAEROBIC MUD beneath a thin layer of brown aerobic mud. Getting over the trench was spectacular, with so many of us getting stuck keep deep in the mud.

Haha dragging the seine net aross the estuary was fun! We only had a minute after bringing the net up to shore and capture those trapped creatures before we had to pull the net back into the estuary to release the unrescued animals.

After an hour's drive to the ferry terminal and stoning about for more than an hour, we were on board a grand ferry to Ireland. I slept through the entire journey partially cause I was sleepy and partly cause I felt giddy.

You haven't seen the other side of the ferry. There's a bar and casino upstairs too. Too bad I'm underage and under the supervision of teachers.

Another day wasted travelling to Derrygonnelly Field Study Centre.

3 hours drive from the field centre to GIANTS' CAUSEWAY. There's a legend involving a confrontation between a giant from Ireland called Finn MacCool and a giant from Scotland whose name I don't know, hence the name of the place. Aiya, read it up yourself.

Yes we walked almost the whole of the county town Enniskellen doing urban studies. It's almost as big as Singapore means effectively, we walked the whole of Singapore. Haha.

Woah okay it's been 18 days since I last blogged.

Mid-years ended yesterday and I AM SUPPOSED TO NOT have school till next Monday cause they're marking days but friday's taken up for classroom cleaning and weird activities and monday's career day. Crap.

I can't believe I'm stoning at home, watching anime and ignoring my mother's incessant nagging on a holiday. Yes I know I'm wasting time, but I can't bring mself to do anything constructive; I just don't have the mood.

F*ck there's still english expository on the last day of school. ): I really need to do something about it. What a joy killer.

All my grades and sports are screwed. What else can I say?

This messed up half a year isn't exactly leaving me in a position where I can laugh everything off and "look on the bright side of life" time after time. Everytime I try to make a comeback, it gets worse. I never seem to be able to get it right.

#1. I ATE A FRIED WORM YESTERDAY. Zann brought them back from thailand. It has this weird rubbery aftertaste and having some parts stuck in my braces made me feel like vomitting.

#2. SPORTS FEST! HADLEY IS THE LOVE! Overall THIRD, but there are many problems with the points tabulation. Final results would be out on monday.

#3. A TYCO FIRST for 100m cause I was lagging at the start.

Thank you all for making my birthday such a memorable one! I loved the presents and birthday songs.

Well, nothing much happened on my birthday except for the timed finals at rjc. Gold for 200m and Silver for 4 by 4. WELL DONE HADLIANS!

Grammar test yesterday and during english today, Mrs Meredith showed us the answers. I'm hoping for the best. Perhaps if I didn't fall asleep during the remaining 20 minutes after finishing my paper, I would have better grades. Oh wells, no point crying over spilt milk. ):

Total defence day was joyous. HOW IRONIC. It's supposed to be day where we reminiscent the dark days of the Japanese occcupation and yet i had fun. O.o

You see, we were very much annoyed that the canteen was closed during recess. Complaining was inevitable but it didn't really help relieve the situation. To make things worse, there was A FIRE DRLL. Like during recess! ):

The whole school gathering on the shool field turned out to be something more or less a socialising and catching-up session with friends. It isn't that bad sitting under the hot sun chit-chatting when you know recess is over and the fire drill is eating into the next lesson. (:

THEY CALLED A REAL FIRE ENGINE TO COME DOWN TO OUR SCHOOL AND SPRAY WATER at nothing, rather, at mosquito fog (fake smoke). SO COOL RIGHT. =.="

Really nice and exception of the school to give us free time till 11 to have food rationing and rest. Somehow i got really high suddenly. O.O FREE BLOCK AFTER FREE TIME! 2 HOURS OF FREEDOM was largely spent sleeping and rushing last minute homework and blasting songs and blah.

Training was at hci again cause Bishan stadium was booked. AHEM, THE PRANK. Tsk. My knee is hurting again. Damnit.

CHINESE NEW YEAR!

Visiting follows the same order every year. Starting off with my grandmother's place, then my other grandmother's place, my grandfather's place and then my uncle's place to end the first day. Spending almost half days at my yi po's place and my lao gou's place takes up the second day.

MAHJONG FOR THE WIN! And channel 8 screened really interesting tv shows over the festive season. I totally love SHAO LIN ZU QIU, LAO SHU AI SHANG MAO and QUE SHENG. Catch them if you haven't. (:

Had a really good and refreshing break off the stressful and hectic life.

Day 1

- reached OBS at around 10 plus in the morning

- admin matters such as allocation of watches

- played ice breakers with buddy watch (Bo Seng)

- store check and ate biscuits for lunch

- learnt how to pitch tents

a must-know skill for survival in the open RAWR

- was supposed to play "fallen angel" to build trust within our watch but it rained so we seeked shelter and had a recap on how to belay climbers

- cooked dinner and packed haversack

- trekking delayed till about 9pm due to the rain

I LOVE NIGHT TREK! Amanda, thanks la for scaring me. (:

- pitched tents in the dark at some ulu campsite by the reservoir, slept on some slope full or rocks

SO NOT THERAPEUTIC, sleeping bags were rather useless. LUCKY IT DIDN'T RAIN IN THE NIGHT if not we'll have to hold on to our tent poles and sleep in mud puddles.

Day 2

- woke up, packed, unpitched tents and had breakfast in the dark

DIRTY. Eww.

- played morning games

Amanda style jumping jacks. Hee.

- sang Jonathan (Bo Seng's instructor) a birthday song

- cleaned up the campsite and natural toilet

- morning circle and reflections

- trekked back but stopped halfway to play a stone game

Basically we had to throw a pebble at the same time with the same hand and catch the pebble from the person next to you. Coordination and cooperation yo! Kurt's record: 4 CONSECUTIVE TIMES!

- capsize drill

I hit my head on the kayak. Ouch. LUCKY LUCKY we beached up and bathed before the cat 1 storm.

- walked to some tunnel in the forest and 26 people had to squeeze inside it to find puzzle pieces with only 6 light sticks

- ran back in the rain with a SMELLY poncho sticking to my face

- bathed again in less than an hour's time

- supposed to play games to chill but we were too engrossed in watching other watches climb the log ladder that we rejected our instructor's games

Got scolded and made to do a reflection. :(

- food rationed, pitch tents and slept at camp 1

Day 3

- SEA EXPEDITION: KAYAK TO SEMBAWANG!

- woke up at 5, planned to set off at 7am but some watches had not completed their capsize drill so we waited for 4 hours, standing by the beach

- loaded our camping stuff onto the powerboats

- had to say a line of encouragement to everybody before launching off

- paddled really fast against current cause we had to reach a checkpoint by 2pm (with that delay, we were afraid we had to turn back and also there were signs of imminent storms)

You know it's not at all comfortable to remain silent while others talk about their expeditions right.

- took 6 hours to reach sembawang and had an enjoyable evening though I was feeling feverish

- night circle

Jenny was freaked out by the instructor's not-at-all-scary story cause she acted as the amplifier for him. HAHA.

- sentry duty without excitement

Day 4
- the usual morning things: waking up, packing and unpitching tents
- played games to help foster bonds within CAMP 1 BRAVO

- kayaked back to camp 1 in 3 hours, half the time we took to get there
LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY WE WERE WITH CURRENT AND WE REACHED BEFORE THE CURRENT CHANGED DIRECTION.
- had to swap partners in the middle to speed things up and where we paused, the water was only waist deep =.="
- cleaned and stacked the kayaks
- bathed
- climbed the "inverse tower", camp 1 Bravo had to earn 1000 points in order to eat in the cookhouse
WOOTS, WE ATTAINED 1128 POINTS! Yay thanks Amanda, we reached the top!
- got scolded for pitching our tents too slowly but it started raining
Almost had to cook dinner. LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY!

- reflections then supper

- went to medical centre to check out if I needed eye wash for my really red eyes
- it rained heavily during and after dinner so we didn't have to sleep in tents, WE SLEPT IN THE MULTI PURPOSE HALL!
LUCKY times 5! Only then did the sleeping bag really came in handy.

Day 5
- usual stuff
- morning reflections about the course and chit-chat session
- store check
Kurt had to pay $16.95. WTH LA.
- played one last activity, "diving angel"
- closing speech by Vivian! and some presentations by several watches
- boat ride back to punggol jetty
- bus ride back to school
- car ride back to home
- slept for hours

Uhh. So this morning I had track, 100m and 400m time trial.
100m was rather good, a slight improvement from the previous time trial and 400m was horrible again. I CAN'T CURVE!
It pisses me off to think that up till now I can't break that 70 seconds barrier. Yea yea i'm slow but this's the third 400m of my entire life. Self consolation sometimes do work on me. (:

And I heard from Samantha that I'm in 301'08. Triple science geog ftwin!

I was basically just training on my own cause the rest had to do some rehearsal for today's end-of-holiday-class performance. Haha I didn't want to perform (that's such a good reason but an invalid excuse :D lol).

TUESDAY
Wushu.
I spent most of training watching their rehearsal. Haha, NG so many times but I should say it's not that bad luh.

Last training of the year. It was really tiring and sickening training everyday, sometimes even twice a day luh. But now I've suddenly got so much free time, I don't really know how to spend it.

Track training was so energy-draining that by the time it ended, I was barely able to complete one lap of cool down.

Did weights in the gym at hwachong's newly built SALT Centre (it's a really big place and I swear I could have lost my way if not for my coach).

When the downpour gradually lightened up and eventually stopped raining, I had to do some 10 by 60m with the HCI jumpers. Yea obviously I lagged behind in every single run and trying to keep up with them nearly killed my legs. My performance fluctuated a lot cause my timings fell in between 8.56s and 9.18s, big difference yo.

MAO MAO YU :(

Wushu was as usual, that bad and that good. Good luck TXT and LKT. Hou kong fan is not that difficult! :)

They bet on the fact that I am a student and they are teachers and that I have to respect them at all times and that I would not dare to do anything against them. Come on, haven't they heard of this popular saying "treat others how you want others to treat you"? I'm putting my life as a stake, and I bet there will be karma. Fancy using their authorities to bend about issues and abusing their authorities, they certainly deserve no due respect. Just wait and see how nature works itself. I'll endure this pain and move on with life; I'll suffer in silence.

I feel like giving up on history. If only I could tear up that stack of notes, fling them all out of the window and walk out of my room to i-don't-know-where; my life would be a better one.

I just can't seem to get history right. Perhaps, ~~it's me being too result orientated~~ it's just me losing my confidence. I don't have the guts to face history and perserve on for a few more days, I'm afraid I will lose.

Hmm.. oh yeah, I went to watch Rush Hour 3 with sinoians and the coaches yesterday. The fun all began when Kwan Ter called me just as I was about to leave home for Vivo to say that he had gotten the venue wrong, we're supposed to catch the movie at Great World City. After meeting 17 fellow sinoians and 2 coaches at the arcade, I squandered away 30minutes wandering about the arcade, randomly watching people game their lives out and laughing at their mannerisms.

I strongly recommend all of you out there who hasn't watched Rush Hour 3 to catch it. It's super hilarious.
